Want to spend the day with a pro surfer learning all the tricks and tips on how to better your surfing in and out of the water? Well this is the clinic that will leave you wanting to get out there and practice all that you have learnt.

A 1 day event with pro surfer Johanne Defay and High performance surf coach Gee Cormack working together to help you progress to a new level with your surfing.

Will activities in and out of the water, you will not only feel so much better about your surfing but you will have made a bunch of new friends doing so.

Gee has an incredible depth of knowledge when it comes to surfing in all kinds of conditions. She has taught me how to read the ocean and mentally prepare myself for every surf regardless of the waves, tides, crowds and seasons. Training on the Smoothstar with Gee has helped me to exponentially progress my surfing by giving me a better understanding of the body movement and commitment required to generate speed and do turns on the wave.

On an emotional level Gee has taught me to back myself in the surf and has given me the confidence to surf outside of my comfort zone. Gee also understands the limitations of an older body that has been through two pregnancies and is able to guide me through those physical restrictions.

Most importantly, Gee has encouraged me to find the joy and fun in surfing so that I enjoy every single opportunity I have to be out in the ocean taking part in the sport that I love so much!

As we are a school that works very closely with our clients getting them to their dream surfing ability through teaching them to understand fear, breaking down technique and empowering through progression it is important to get to know our coaches and how we fell in love with surfing and helping other women surf.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I am not an intermediate surfer can I still come to the clinic?

This clinic is designed for women who are independent in the water. which is normally intermediate to advanced surfers You don't have to be intermediate to come along but you do need to be able to be out the back and catch green waves. If you are a beginner and still in whitewash it would not be suitable for you but if you are a high beginner and out the back learning to turn on green waves then you are able to join.

Do I need to be able to ride a SmoothStar to come along to the clinic?

Yes we do require that you have at least ridden a SmoothStar once or twice before to get the most out of this clinic as we will be working on technique correction, speed generating and wave simulation drills. You don't need to be amazing on a SmoothStar but you need to have been on one or something similar at least a few times.

Do I need to have my own surfboard and wetsuit?

It is always good to bring your own equipment for the event so that we can help guide you on how to ride your board better but we are happy to provide you with one of our progression boards if you are looking at trying something new.

Do I need to have my own SmoothStar or can I ride a different board?

No we are not able to allow other types of surf trainers into this clinic as the drills and training is designed around simulating surfing and the SmoothStar boards are the closest feel to surfing so we work specifically with these boards to get the best results. We are totally more than happy for you to bring your other board and after the training you can try the drills with your normal boards no problems at all. We will provide SmoothStar boards for anyone that doesn't have one.

What protection do you provide for the On Land SmoothStar training?

We provide a helmet for anyone that doesn't have one as it is a requirement to have one on during any on land SmoothStar training. If you would like more protection during the training we are more than happy for you to bring your own padding as some feel they feel safer with it on.

What if the conditions are not good for the clinic?

We keep a very close eye on the forecast leading up to any of our clinics and if we feel that we are not able to run the clinic and give the clients an environment for them to feel confident and learn then we will postpone the clinic and move it to a more suitable day.
