About The Clinic

Suitable for:

Surfers of all levels. This is a mid length to longboard clinic but we can also take shorter board surfers if happy to surf the amazing Umina wave.

This December we have decided to put on a 1 day event up on the beautiful Umina Beach coastline. If you have never surfed this wave then you are missing out as not only is it a magical long mellow beach break it is surrounded by nature and has a cute little town leading to the beach.

We are so stoked to be partnering up with the amazing Sal from Sals surf school who has allowed us access to her incredible location for a day of learning and fun.

This clinic is mainly focusing on mid length to longboard surfing but can also accommodate for the shorter board surfers too. With a great range of surf coaches to accommodate for all levels and styles you will walk away feeling motivated to push your surfing further.

Sal from Sal’s surf school is an amazing coach in the water and on land and  will be giving us her local knowledge and lending us a hand throughout the day.

When I first started lessons with the girls, I'd never been on a board and had a lifelong fear of the water. The patience and the perseverance of the team however, means that 18 months on, while the fear is ever present, my love of the ocean and being on a board has grown exponentially. Every time I'm in the water with these ladies I am thankful for the incredible knowledge, guidance, support and passion they share. My coaching is not an easy case, but the Chix team never fail to deliver on understanding and compassion, which makes my journey far easier to tread!

Hello everyone!

My name is Erica, I was born and raised in an Argentine coastal city called Miramar.

I love surfing and contact with the sea. It is the place where I spend most of my time and I would not change it for anything! It brings out the best in me, in the Ocean I am happy. Surfing my longboard is like dancing on the waves! I love working with a group of women, inspiring them to surf, breaking the fear and above all having fun. Creating a positive, warm and friendly environment: a very feminine unique characteristic.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I am not an intermediate surfer can I still come to the clinic?

This clinic is designed for women who are independent in the water. which is normally intermediate to advanced surfers You don't have to be intermediate to come along but you do need to be able to be out the back and catch green waves. If you are a beginner and still in whitewash it would not be suitable for you but if you are a high beginner and out the back learning to turn on green waves then you are able to join.

Do I need to be able to ride a SmoothStar to come along to the clinic?

Yes we do require that you have at least ridden a SmoothStar once or twice before to get the most out of this clinic as we will be working on technique correction, speed generating and wave simulation drills. You don't need to be amazing on a SmoothStar but you need to have been on one or something similar at least a few times.

Do I need to have my own surfboard and wetsuit?

It is always good to bring your own equipment for the event so that we can help guide you on how to ride your board better but we are happy to provide you with one of our progression boards if you are looking at trying something new.

Do I need to have my own SmoothStar or can I ride a different board?

No we are not able to allow other types of surf trainers into this clinic as the drills and training is designed around simulating surfing and the SmoothStar boards are the closest feel to surfing so we work specifically with these boards to get the best results. We are totally more than happy for you to bring your other board and after the training you can try the drills with your normal boards no problems at all. We will provide SmoothStar boards for anyone that doesn't have one.

What protection do you provide for the On Land SmoothStar training?

We provide a helmet for anyone that doesn't have one as it is a requirement to have one on during any on land SmoothStar training. If you would like more protection during the training we are more than happy for you to bring your own padding as some feel they feel safer with it on.

What if the conditions are not good for the clinic?

We keep a very close eye on the forecast leading up to any of our clinics and if we feel that we are not able to run the clinic and give the clients an environment for them to feel confident and learn then we will postpone the clinic and move it to a more suitable day.
